Going from Ordinary to Extraordinary

Have you ever felt like you were going in circles, finding a new tool that's supposed to help you improve your life, only to discard it after two weeks to look for something new? I have done that more than I can count looking for the perfect decoder ring to answer all of my challenges.

Through my journey of self-discovery, I identified 5 areas that I wanted to change from living in my own ordinary world.

These included:

  1. I control the narrative.

  2. I create extraordinary results.

  3. I demonstrate self-love by prioritizing my commitments to myself.

  4. I am my biggest cheerleader.

  5. This is a lifestyle, not a one-time event.

Why I choose these areas to focus and what these mean to me.

I control the narrative is related to the story's we tell ourselves. I was telling myself that I quit after two weeks and that I never follow through on something long enough to see lasting results. I was tired of hearing this story in my head and wanted to change it. I HAVE CONTROL OVER THE NARRATIVE. I changed the story to I am successful at any task because I am always learning and growing. I have started looking for the golden nuggets and no longer discounting a tool or technique I choose to try.

I create extraordinary results meant that I am responsible for the results I want to create. No one else can do this for me. I have to choose to be the person I desire and own the ability to be successful. There is no blame for me not getting the results that I desire. I have 100% control of achieving my goals and it is time I take ownership of that.

I demonstrate self-love by prioritizing my commitments to myself. I would often make excuses to miss workouts or to choose unhealthy meals. I would make deals with myself that I'd start tomorrow. I started to lose trust in myself. It was getting easier and easier to let myself down and I didn't like how it made me feel. I had to take responsibility to follow through on the commitments I made to myself. I started off small, with one thing at a time. First, it was eating a protein focused breakfast every morning. Then I added, movement at least 30-minutes a day. As I started rebuilding my relationship with myself, I gained more conviction to follow through on my word to myself. I realized this commitment to myself demonstrated to myself the love I have for me and that I am important to prioritize.

I am my biggest cheerleader. If I'm honest, it's nice to have others acknowledge my dedication and accomplishments, but it's impossible for others to know the daily struggles and challenges I face daily. Getting up at 5:15 AM for a workout, passing on the potato fries at Chick fil a or journaling 10 minutes a day are wins no one sees. This is where becoming my biggest cheerleader is important because no one knows the path to success except for me. Achieving my goals is for me and only me, so I've learned to recognize my daily wins helps build my confidence and trust in myself.

This is a lifestyle, not a one-time event. When we had our family ceremony in Punta Cana, I was determined to fit into my wedding dress that was one size smaller when I bought it. I worked out hard, ate clean and was excited to fit into my dress on the day of the ceremony. However, afterwards, I went back to my old habits of binge eating when stressed and skipping my workouts. The weight has since returned because I did not incorporate the mindset and behaviors into a lifestyle. I accept where and who I am today, but also know that I want to look and feel like I did that day in Punta Cana. I have since started believing in myself and embracing the baby steps I am achieving to make progress. I no longer have a dress I want to fit into one day, I want to be the best version of myself in my midlife years. That means being active, loving myself and honoring my limitations.

By incorporating these new beliefs, I find myself excited to embark on the day, making progress from moving from ordinary to extraordinary.

I invite you to join me on this journey. Together, we can create a life of abundance, joy, and success. Take the first step towards a more extraordinary life by reaching out to me today.
